Criteria for becoming an Elementary Teacher:

The following are coursework requirements for admission into the Elementary MAT Program:

• Science: 12 credit hours (quarter)
• Social Science: US History or Geography
• Math: Math 211, Math 212, and Math 213, or equivalent
• Language Arts: one Literature and two Writing courses
• Art: Art Fundamentals or experience
• Music: Music Fundamentals or experience

Steps to MAT admission for becoming an Elementary Teacher:

Step 1: Complete MAT Elementaryapplication. Application available at:

Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to:

Step 3: Enroll for and pass the ORELA, test #001 and #002

Step 4: Enroll for and pass the CBEST or Praxis I (PPST)

Step 5: Complete 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting
