Criteria for Becoming an Art Teacher:
In order to teach Art at the middle and high school levels, the teacher candidate must have preparation equivalent to a major in Art. If the teacher candidate does not have a major in the subject, then he/she must have taken classes equivalent to an Eastern Oregon University Art degree. Please note that these are guidelines only and that a transcript review and advising are needed to assure that you will meet the requirements. Steps to MAT admission for becoming an Art Teacher:
Step 1: Complete MAT Secondary application. Step 2: Send in application, including all unofficial transcripts. Send to: Janet Frye-MAT Office Coordinator College of Education One University Blvd La Grande, OR 97850 Step 3: Enroll for and pass the Enroll for and pass the EAS or CBEST or Praxis I (PPST), and content area test Step 4: Complete a 30 hour experience in a public school instructional setting Step 5: Complete EOU Application for Graduate Admission.
