Teacher-Librarian Cognate

Preparation for becoming a Library Media Specialist

The teacher-librarian courses may be applied to a cognate area of the Master’s of Science (MS) degree, and consists of 18 graduate semester hours. This course of study is designed for those seeking an endorsement in Educational Media. Candidates may add this endorsement to a license by completing the course of study; including 90 clock hours of practicum, and obtaining a passing score on Praxis II Library Media Specialist test.

Students will be responsible for submitting verification of coursework and practicum completion to TSPC, along with passing test scores of the Praxis II test (#10310).

In addition to the MS program requirements, candidates must also have taken LIB 388: Children's Literature or READ 594: Young Adult Literature as a pre-requisite to this cognate. Equivalent courses from other institutions must be approved.
