General Information
Courses offered through the Division of Distance Education are charged at a tuition rate calculated per credit hour. In addition to tuition, course fees will also apply. Please see our Tuition & Fees web page.
Admission to EOU is required for all degree seeking students. Note - You can take up to 8 credits per term without being admitted.
The maximum course load for a full-time, undergraduate student is 21 credits per term. A maximum graduate level student load is 16 credits per term. To request additional hours, complete a Credit Overload form and gain approval of your academic adviser and academic dean.
Eastern Oregon University's Division of Distance Education (DDE) offers a variety of accredited degree programs that enable you to learn anytime, anywhere in the fifty United States and Canada (excluding territories and possessions of the United States). Existing logistics prevent DDE from serving students who relocate either temporarily or permanently outside of these areas. DDE will allow enrollment of military personnel if they have regular access to the Internet and receive mail at an APO address.
Registration
Online registration is available at Webster. Registration timelines are listed on DDE's Dates & Deadlines web page. For courses requiring instructor approval, you must complete a Registration and a Reading & Conference form.
WEBSTER
Web registration is easy. This online account allows you to register for classes and review your student account and financial aid information in a quick and efficient manner. Currently enrolled students and newly admitted students are automatically assigned a login and pin number to access their account. Please view instructions for accessing your Webster account.

EOU E-Mail Account
All officially registered EOU students are assigned a free EOU e-mail / Internet account. This account provides a vital link between you, your instructors, and EOU. This account is set up for you within 48 hours after registering for your first EOU class. Bills for tuition and fees and other important university communications will be sent to this e-mail address. You are responsible for any information communicated to you this way. While participating in courses offered through the Division of Distance Education, you will also receive via this EOU e-mail account a monthly electronic newsletter, DDEzine, that will alert you to program & course changes and other important information.
Adding Courses
If you are already registered for the term, you can add classes using Webster. Please refer to the DDE Dates & Deadlines web page.
Dropping Courses
You may drop a course through Webster. Please refer to the DDE Dates & Deadlines web page.
Please refer to the Tuition Refund Policy when dropping both Onsite and Online courses. A $15/course drop fee will go into effect on the eighth calendar day of the term for Onsite and Online courses. This drop fee is a separate service fee, and will reduce refunds when courses are dropped.
Withdrawing from a Course
After the midpoint of the term in which you have registered, it is too late to drop without responsibility for a grade. You may choose to withdraw; the Add/Drop form provides a section for this request. Webster is not available for this process. Withdrawals are accepted until the date listed on our DDE Dates & Deadlines web page. The instructor must assign a grade of either “W” (if your work is passing) or “F” (if your work is failing). You may not withdraw from a course from a prior term.
S/U Option
The satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) option gives you the opportunity to take courses outside your major program without fear of the earned grade affecting your GPA. To receive a grade of “S” you must earn a “C-” or better in the course. The S/U grading option must be elected by the second Friday within the term registered. Webster is not available for selecting the S/U option. To elect the S/U option, complete the S/U Option Request form.
Of the 180 minimum credit hours required for a Bachelor’s Degree, you may elect up to 36 credit hours for S/U. (Courses offered only on an S/U basis are not included in the 36 hour limit.) The S/U grade option may be chosen for general education requirements; it may not be used for some courses in a major. Check with your adviser for exceptions.
Auditing Courses
The grade (AU) is assigned to you when you enroll in a course for no credit. Auditors do not have to complete assignments or take examinations. You may change to or from audit status until ten percent of the course has elapsed. Audit fees are the same as regular academic courses.
Grades
Your grades are available to you online through Webster. Grades are no longer sent through the mail at the end of each term. As noted in our EOU Academic Catalog, letter grades awarded at the completion of a course may be an A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, or an F. Other letters that may be assigned include:
- S Satisfactory
- U Unsatisfactory
- AU Audit (no credit)
- I Incomplete (This grade is usually given at the end of the first term of a two-term course. You will receive a Grade Report of Incomplete that specifies a date when you will need to complete the course in order to receive a final grade, and the alternate grade, usually an F, if you do not complete the required work by the specified date.)
- W Withdrawn (no credit)
Grades of Audit, S, U, I, and W are not included when computing a grade point average (GPA). A GPA is calculated on total grade points divided by the total graded term hours attempted.
Senior
Citizen (65+years) Participation
Auditing DDE Courses:
If there is room in an Onsite course for an audit (non-credit) participant and a senior citizen wishes to sit in on the class, he/she may do so without paying any tuition. Charges for additional course fees, however, need to be paid by the senior citizen auditing participant.
Credit for Classes: Senior citizens who wish to receive credit for courses must pay the regular tuition and fees. Registration is completed at the same time as other DDE students.
