The Academic Forum’s Spring 2013 Conference
The Academic Forum’s Spring 2013 Conference will be held at the Williamsburg Lodge, Williamsburg, VA, April 10 – 12, 2013. The Academic Forum welcomes qualitative and empirical research papers, abstracts, case studies, and works-in-progress on topics in Business, Public Administration, and University Pedagogy.

MOOCs on Digital and Online Education Starting In January
Two MOOCs related in particular to online teaching and learning and digital are being offered through Coursera beginning January 28.
The first MOOC, E-Learning and Digital Cultures, is hosted by educational technologists at the University of Edinburgh. The course is designed for, “teachers, learning technologists, and people with a general interest in education who want to deepen their understanding of what it means to teach and learn in the digital age.” The MOOC runs for five weeks.
The second MOOC, Fundamentals of Online Learning, Planning and Application, is an introduction to online course planning with a focus on converting face-to-face courses into online courses. This course is six weeks long.

Summer Institute for Innovative Technology 2013 (SIIT 3.0)
The Summer Institute for Innovative Technology 2013 (SIIT 3.0) is now accepting nominations. The deadline to nominate yourself or someone else for the institute is February 1, 2013.
This year’s institute will take place during ten days between August 22 and September 6, 2013. A $1000 stipend is provided when completing the institute.
The SIIT allows faculty to explore new technologies related to teaching in both online and computer-enhanced on-campus courses. To date, 32 faculty have participated in the first two SIIT sessions.
If you or someone you know would like to be a part of this summer’s SIIT cohort, please send an email to Heidi Harris (hharris@eou.edu) by February 1. Nominees then will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire, and participants will be notified of their acceptance by February 15. Previous attendees are welcome as nominations, but priority will go to first-time attendees.
