EOU Regional HS Math Competition
Welcome to the 2008 EOU regional HS Math Competition. This year's event will be held on Tuesday April 15th on the campus of EOU.

General Information -
Calculators may be used - in fact they are encouraged at our regional contest.
Pre-Registration Packets - Pick up registration packets and make any changes in the Loso Hall foyer, 8:15 - 8:45 a.m. Directions for the day begin at 8:45 a.m.
Participation - only students in grades 8-12. (Small schools may allow students in Grade 7 to participate to fill out a team, but be aware that these students may not be eligible for the state competition).
Number of participants – A full team is 15 students – three from each of the Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II categories and three from the combined Open I (Pre-Calculus) and Open II (Calculus) categories. Alternates on teams are allowed in each category, but schools bringing more than 24 participants are considered two teams for registration fee purposes and are encouraged to attempt to form two full teams.
Registration Fee - $25 per team.
Names of Participants - In order to print our programs for the day, the names of the participants and
the category in which they will compete in, must be in this office no later than Friday, April 6, 2007.
State Qualifying Exam
Categories for State qualification – Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Medals will be awarded to the top three in each of those four categories as well as Algebra I and Pre-Algebra. Students cannot participate at a level lower than where they are currently enrolled. Scoring of Tests - correct answer +5 pts, incorrect answer -2 pts, blank 0 pts.
Other Regional Contest Events
Relay - 1 relay group per team (relay group composed of one person from each of the Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II categories and one from the combined Open I and Open II categories). Trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
Solve That Problem - for Algebra II, Geometry, and the combined Open I / Open II (two students
per category from each school team who are not in the relay) - Ribbons awarded.
Math Bee (or an appropriate substitute) - For Pre-Algebra and Algebra I (two students from each
school team who are not in the relay) Ribbons awarded.
Plaques – For the winning teams based on the events above, one for large schools and one for small schools.
State Contest
This year the State Contest will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Willamette University. Usually we are directed to send five top finishers from each category to the state meet. Past years' winners at the state competition have been awarded everything from books and computers to scholarships.
