EOU is one of 183 colleges and universities participating in the
American Democracy Project [ADP], a collaboration between member
institutions, the American Association of State Colleges and
Universities and the New York /Times/. The ADP aims to help college
students understand and engage in civic life. EOU ADP events have
included voter education projects and the Strengthening Rural Food
Systems Symposium, coming in May 2006. EOU also offers students a
chance to participate in local chapter of the election reform
organization Democracy Matters. In 2005, George Mehaffy, Director of
the American Democracy Project visted EOU.
