Allen Evans is Professor of Teacher Education. Dr. Evans began his work at EOU in 1986, where he taught in the former J. H. Ackerman Laboratory School. From 1995-2006 he was a resident EOU teacher education faculty member in Central Oregon. Returning to the La Grande campus in 2006, Dr. Evans now teaches undergraduate classes in instructional strategies and assessment, and graduate classes in literacy and classroom-based research. In addition he serves as the coordinator of the Master of Science program. Prior to his time at EOU, he was an elementary teacher for ten years in Idaho. Dr. Evans’ professional involvement is largely in the area of literacy. He has presented at IRA and NCTE, published in the Dragon Lode journal, and chaired both the Children’s Book Award committee of the International Reading Association and the Notable Books for a Global Society selection committee. He currently serves as Vice-President of the Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group. Outside the classroom he enjoys EOU and WSU athletics, djembe drumming, bicycling, and is also a railroad enthusiast. He and his wife have two adult sons.
