Aimee Alexander-Shea is an Associate Professor of Education. She joined the Eastern Oregon University faculty in 2011. At EOU, Aimee serves as the Faculty Lead of the undergraduate elementary education program called CUESTE in Gresham, Oregon. She teaches a variety of curriculum and instruction and literacy courses. Prior to coming to EOU, Aimee was an Associate Professor of Developmental Reading at Hillsborough Community College for 12 years.  During her stint at HCC, she was the divisional chair for her department and was one of two lead faculty on a multi-million dollar grant focusing on student retention of first generation college students through learning communities. She has also served as a Reading Resource Specialist for a large urban high school and as an elementary school teacher in Tampa, Florida.

 

Aimee’s research interests include the social studies-literacy connection, literacy integration across the curriculum, parent-teacher partnerships, and developing professionalism in teacher education programs. She has published a number of professional articles in journals such as Phi Theta Kappa and The Social Studies. She has also presented her research at myriad national conferences such as AERA and NCSS.
