Facilities
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Departments are housed in Badgley Hall, the newest addition to the EOU campus. This state-of-the-art science center provides classrooms and laboratories for biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, physics, and psycology programs. Badgley Hall maintains a full-time support-staff consisting of an office specialist, technician, and stockroom manager.
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Departments offer an extensive collection of chemical instrumentaion. Major research equipment includes:
- JEOL AS400 400 MHz NMR spectrometer
- Applied Photophysics SX.18MV-R stopped-flow dual mixing spectrophotometer (dead time ~1ms) with photomultiplier and diode array detection units, housed within an anaerobic glove box
- Two Cary 50 UV/vis spectrophotometers (both with thermostatted cell holders for kinetic studies)
- Nicolet Avatar 360 Fourier-transform infrared spectrophotometer
- Varian Saturn 2200 mass spectrometer with a GP 3800 gas chromatograph and Tekmar purge and trap sampler
- Varian GP 3380 gas chromatograph
- Beckman DNA sequencer
- AKTA UPC-10 protein chromatography system
