Guidelines for Entering in New Biographies

After completing the contributor information, the forms are listed below. Here are some guidelines for this process:

1. You MUST fill out the Biographical Basic Form (in Step 2)

Remember to first check the List All Biographical Names Search to make sure your biographical figure is not entered already and for mulitple names. If your biographical figure is already in the database but is a different person, enter their name as: Name, (Number by order of entry), Birthdate. Example:
Chen Jing (1) 1899; Chen Jing (2) 1911. So if you see in the search that Chen Jing (5) is the last entry for that name, your entry would be Chen Jing (6)
The Chinese Names use Pin Yin Romanization. The names are entered with the surname first: ex. Lin Yutang, Mao Zedong, Song Qingling.
Western Names are entered with the surname first: ex. Smith, Robert.

2. You MUST fill out a Source form or your contribution cannot be accepted for the database.

3. With the exception of two Forms: Biographical Information and Career - You can fill out several forms for each table, for as much information as you can document. For example, several submissions to areas such as Names, Education, Events, Positions, Events, and Affiliations are common.

4. There will proabably be fields that are not known or are not applicable to your entry. If that is the case, please put in:

NA (this stands for Not Available) [use capital letters]

5. The Drop-down lists on these forms do not allow you to enter in variables that are not on the drop down list. Just select, NA and submit the variable with the New Variables and Fields Form.
