How to View and Enter
Chinese Characters

To view and enter Chinese characters,
follow these guidelines:
- Select a Chinese language in the
Preferences of your Browser. This does not displace
English, but allows you a wider viewing range on your web
pages.
- For optimal viewing you can use a helper
or add-on. If possible, turn your Chinese word processing
system on when you want to view or enter characters.
- We are using the following entry system: Big5CJK Code. The reasonto do this is due to the much
greater number of characters available. If the characters
on your screen look strange - the most probable reason is
that you may be using another Chinese configuration. Most
characters on your screen are viewed by a Big 5 setting.
We are considering using Unicode in the future.
- If you are using Twinbridge, make sure
that your configuration in your Chinese word processing,
Chinese Font Setting [or equivalent] is set to: Mapping All English
Fonts to Chinese.
- For more information on
downloadable help and Chinese viewing information see:

Applications
In the entry of new
biography information:
- On our New Biographies - Missing Variables forms, you may enter Chinese in any of the
blank spaces.
- In the Biodata, Alternate Names, and Family forms for New
Biographies, there is also a space for the Chinese names.
- In the Sources form, you can
enter Chinese characters in any space except the English Title space, which needs a romanization of the title.
Romanization must be in pin-yin.
- Because of the need for
consistency to viewers, you must use the "dawu"
Big 5 code or Big5CJK to enter in your characters or they
will not be accepted.
