Career Advising at EOU

Instructions for Getting an On-Campus Job

1. ELIGIBILITY - To be eligible to work you must:
	Have regular student status and be enrolled for 12 or more credit hours per term. Be a grad student enrolled for 9 or more credit hours. Be a part-time student with special permission from the Human Resource Director
2. FIND A JOB
	Check with Career Advising, Inlow 104 Go to www.eou.edu/career/stujobs.htm to check listings Check with individual departments on campus. Some of the major student employers are: Library, Facilities & Planning, Learning Center, Athletics, and the Computer Center.
3. BEFORE YOU START WORK, go to the Human Resources office (Inlow 205). You must fill out payroll paperwork in order to be paid. Please bring ID, including:
	Social Security card: If you do not have one, please go to the Social Security Administration Building at 2205 Cove Avenue and apply for a duplicate. Bring the receipt in. Student ID: to receive an "approved to work" sticker. Driver's license or passport. If you are interested in direct deposit, please bring a voided check or deposit slip.
International students: Please bring your passport, I-20 & I-94 card in addition to the above identification.

4. GETTING PAID
	If you have done the above and turned in a timesheet to your supervisor, you will be paid on the last working day of the month.

Why should you choose to work on campus?

	Many students find it necessary to earn an income to offset their college expenses. Eastern Oregon University supports students by offering employment opportunities on campus. Eastern employers also realize that academic progress is the primary objective.Therefore, work hours are set with course schedules in mind. Transportation to a job is not a problem for students working on campus. Students working at Eastern have a broadened college experience when they are involved in the actual operations of the University. It's a great opportunity to become acquainted with instructors and administrative staff and for them to get to know you.

What is Federal Work Study?

	This is financial aid that students work to earn. It does not have to be repaid. If awarded Work Study, students must find a Work Study job either on or off campus. Students are not guaranteed work under this program. It is their responsibility to find employment. Student can check current job postings at the Career Advising Office, Inlow 104. Federal Work Study is limited, and so it is offered to students with a low Expected Family Contribution who indicate an interest for work study on their FAFSA, and apply for financial aid and admission early.

What are your responsibilities as an employee?

	Be a responsible employee. Student employees are expected to conduct themselves like any other employee. Report to work on time, give required notice if you will be late or absent, be courteous to the public and fellow employees, and dress in a manner appropriate to your job. Remember, if employers did not consider you an important member of their team, they would not have hired you; so be a dependable team member!
