Mentor
Connection News
May 2003 First Edition
OVERVIEW
This collaborative
project between EOU Career Services and the Alumni Office
began early this year with the research and design of a website
that would facilitate the connection between members of the
larger Eastern community.
The goals of the project
are to help current students get good information about career
fields and to help seniors and recent grads to network with
people in their fields of interest.
Currently there are 16
Mentors in the pool. This includes members of the Alumni Board
and a few other recruits. The site has been tested by students
enrolled in BA 408 Job Search Skills over Winter and Spring
terms. It appears to be running effectively and facilitating
career-related conversations. It is time to move forward and
fully implement the program.
THE PLAN
Between May and
September we will recruit new Mentors into the pool. The program
will be launched to the current student population next fall
and to recent graduates through the fall edition of The Mountaineer.
We will also recruit at the Homecoming events next year. In
the meantime, Mentors may have infrequent contacts with students
who are referred by word of mouth.
We are seeking breadth
in the careers represented in our Mentor pool. Alumni, EOU
parents and friends interested in the Mentor Connection should
have over three years of experience in their field AND they
need to be willing to respond to E-mail and phone inquiries.
FEEDBACK WELCOME
If you have constructive feedback for the site or ideas on
how to market this opportunity to Eastern Alumni and friends,
please send your comments to: career-center@eou.edu.
