Course Description:
An examination of business ethics in relation to the regulatory, legal, and social environment of business. Topics may include the impact of social movements, recent changes in government regulation.
Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of a businessperson’s ethical
obligations and the ethical theories that apply to the business environment.
In addition, students will demonstrate an ability to recognize socially
irresponsible business practices.
Understand an agent-principle relationship and the legal
liabilities that arise from such a relationship. Know the basic characteristics
of the most common forms of business organization including sole proprietorships,
partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations
Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of securities regulation, antitrust law and employment law.
Be able to integrate the principles and concepts presented
in the course to real world problems that they might encounter in the business
environment.
Outcome Assessments:
Weekly assignments will require students to apply the
legal principles presented in the text and by the instructor to real life
situations. Periodic examinations will require students demonstrate an
understanding of the business and legal concepts examined in the course
and also require students demonstrate their ability to apply those concepts
to real world problems.
