Somewhere in the middle of the first half the Mountaineers found their stride. For the first ten minutes Eastern could not seem to shake the Geoducks. Then the Mountie defense locked in, holding Evergreen to just 21 points in the half. That defense also lead to some easy baskets on the offensive end. At the break EOU led 35-21 and never looked back, winning the game 69-48.
Eleven players got into the game for the Mountaineers. Ten of them got into the scoring column. Only Laura Gyllenburg did not score. Gyllenburg, a sophomore, did not attempt a shot but did dish out 2 assists and grab 2 rebounds.
Senior Christie Weaver once again led EOU in scoring with 22 points on 7-11 shooting from the field including 4-7 from the 3 point line. The La Grande high school alum also had 7 rebounds. Fellow senior Liz Brice added 13 points on 5-9 shooting while junior Sheena Henderson had 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Point guard Whitney Leman continued her steady play dishing out 9 assists without a single turnover. Jennifer Solberg led the Geoducks with 15 points.
The Mounties will return to action next weekend when they travel to Portland to face Warner Pacific and Cascade. Both games are set to start at 5:30pm.
