12.5.06
Down by 2 with just 2 seconds on the clock junior forward Tiffanie Ulmer dropped in a beautiful turn-a-round jump hook from the right baseline to tie the game at 64 and send it to overtime. In overtime Eastern outscored Whitman College 9 to 6 to squeak out a 73-70 win.
Despite being down 10 points with 10:31 to go in regulation and seeing the Missionaries shoot an amazing 81% in the second stanza the Mounties found a way to come back and win during a week where the team had more than just basketball on their minds. It is finals week at Eastern and for most of the game it looked as though those late night cram sessions were taking a toll.
Ulmer had another stellar game for the Mountaineers. She racked up 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Eastern in both categories. Junior guard Stephanie Neubauer had 13 points while senior Christie Weaver and junior Laura Olson added 10 a piece. Whitney Leman, despite going 0-6 from the field played a solid floor game providing 6 points 4 rebounds and 6 assists with just 1 turnover. Whitman was led by Kelsey Krumdieck who finished the game with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
Eastern will lace it up again this Friday and Saturday when they face Whitworth College and Western Montana in the Holliday Classic held in Quinn Coliseum. Albertson College will face Western Montana at 5:30pm Friday and the host team will square off against Whitworth at 7:30pm.
