KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced 298 men's and women's cross country runners have been named 2007 Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athletes.

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.

Eastern Oregon Cross Country claimed two of those spots in the form of Senior Sara Bates and Graduate Student Stephanie Dwindle

Bates, a Psychology and Art Major from Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, has impressed Head Coach Ben Welch with her growth, "Sara has steadily improved academically and athletically over the years."

Windle is a graduate student in the MTE program.  The Union High School graduate has always been a force in the classroom according to Welch, "(Stephanie) has been a real strong consistent academic performer all the way through."

Bates along with junior Morgan Saltenberger were the Champions of Character Award during the NAIA National Meet.  The honor goes to student-athletes that best exemplify the Champions of Character core values; Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship.
