LA GRANDE, Ore. - Playing in their Cascade Conference opener Friday afternoon, The Eastern Oregon University Mountaineer Soccer team found themselves in a tight battle once again.  After playing very well for all of the first half and the majority of the second the Mounties ran out of steam and lost to The Evergreen State College 3-1.

The first half left Eastern and Evergreen deadlocked at a goal a piece.  The Geoducks Maeve Dempsey scored their lone first half goal while EOU's Tennly Paul-Bowden scored the only Mountie goal of the day.  The goal was assisted by freshman newcomer Lauren Souza.

The Mountaineers came out in the second half and mounted charge after charge resulting and great shop opportunities that they were unable to capitalize on.  It seemed as though every shot on goal seemed to clang off the post.

Evergreen's Monica Ragan took advantage of the Mounties missed opportunities and scored the go ahead goal in the 76th minute.  The Geoducks tacked on a penalty kick goal in the 83rd minute to make the final score 3-1.

EOU will not have much time to turn it around as the face Northwest University in La Grande tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
