La Grande, Ore. –Eastern Oregon’s soccer team improved to 9-4, 5-1 CCC on the season after Sunday’s 2-0 shutout against Region I foe University of Great Falls.
The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard early with first half goals from Junior midfielder Tara Moran (Fairbanks, Alaska/Lathrop HS) and freshman forward Allie Kirby (Gresham, Ore./Centennial HS).
Moran’s unassisted goal in the 3rd minute sailed over the Lady Argos’ goalkeeper Lindsey Saunders. Kirby added another goal for the Mountaineers in the 35th minute after a free kick. Freshman forward Chanelle Banghart (Elko, Nev./Elko HS) and midfielder Ashley Julian (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS) were both credited with the assist.
Winning six of their last seven, including Saturday’s upset of NAIA No. 8 Carroll College, have given the Mountaineers a great deal of momentum to close out the regular season.
EOU will host Cascade College and the Cascade Conference No. 1 and NAIA No. 5 team in Concordia University this upcoming weekend. Friday’s game against Cascade will be played at 3:00pm and Sundays will be at 11:00am.
