The Mountaineer soccer team won two pivotal games this weekend. On Friday the team defeated Warner Pacific 5-1. “We played very well, we really came out strong in the second half,” Coach Colleen Fagan said. “Our forwards played very well.”
The team was ahead 2-1 at halftime, and were able to find the net three times in the second half. Balanced scoring led to five different Mountaineers finding the back of the net.
Allie Kirby, Lori Wilson, Tennly Paul-Bowden, Kristen Rice and Martha Billings each scored.
On Saturday the team held on for a victory, 2-1 against Corban College. The Mountaineers scored the first two goals of the game within six minutes of each other.
Wilson scored a goal for in the 17th minute and Rice tallied one in the 22nd minute to give the team a 2-0 lead. Corban answered back with a score in the 25th minute, but Corban could not score again, securing the victory.
“It was a very even game, it was also pretty physical,” Fagan said. “These wins put us into second place in the conference and fifth in the region.”
The team will attempt to continue their five game win streak on Wednesday, October 4th when they host Northwest Nazarene University. The match will start at 3 p.m.
