Mountaineers women’s soccer had a strong performance this weekend, winning one of their two games.  The weekend started off on Friday at the Evergreen State College, where the women lost 2-1.

“We actually dominated the game,” Coach Colleen Fagan said.  “They only took two shots in the first half and they both went in.”  The Mountaineers out shot Evergreen 11-5 for the match.

“Their goalie also had a few great saves,” Fagan said.  “They also played the ball in their half of the field in the second half, which hurt our scoring chances.”

A goal by Freshman Chanelle Banghart late in the first half gave the Mountaineers some life, but they couldn’t find a way to tie the match.  “We had some good combo plays, we just couldn’t connect on them,” Fagan said.

On Saturday the Mountaineers rallied against Northwest College, winning 2-0.  Senior Kristen Rice and Sophomore Lori Wilson each tallied a score as the ladies were able to neutralize the opponent’s best scorer.

“We did a great job of making runs and getting the ball up the field,” Fagan said.  “Our defense was very solid and we didn’t allow many shots.”

The Mountaineers will hit the pitch again at home, hosting Oregon Tech on Friday September 22 and Southern Oregon, Saturday September 23.
