Head Coach Anji Weissenfluh is excited to start another season at Eastern Oregon.  With nine returning players from last year’s team, Weissenfluh and company are ready for the challenge.

“We have a strong returning nucleus,” Weissenfluh said.  “Their leadership will be very important, especially at the beginning of the season.  We’re a little undersized, but we’re going to try and neutralize that with our speed and aggressiveness.”

Returning starters Christie Weaver (La Grande, Ore.) and Sheena Henderson (Coulee City, Wash.) will be a big part of the team’s interior.  Weissenfluh will also rely on Liz Brice (Burley, Ida.), Elise Hawes (Madras, Ore.), Laura Olsen (Moro, Ore.) and Whitney Leman (Ninilchik, Alaska) for their experience and skills.

“Christie will be a versatile player for us this year.  We will need her outstanding shooting ability along with some scoring on the post to be successful,” Weissenfluh said.  “Sheena is coming off a great sophomore year, and she’s very quick and strong for her size.”

A strong recruiting class will feature Stephanie Neubauer (Wolfpoint, Mont.), Breana Olson (Caldwell, Ida.), Tiffanie Ulmer (Ellensburg, Wash.) and Joelle Bain (North Powder, Ore.).

“These players are very athletic, and we’ll look to them to step up and help us in various ways.  Stephanie has great court awareness and Breana is very athletic.  Tiffanie has solid fundamentals on the post, and Joelle will really help us with our rebounding.”

Salena Leavitt (Spokane, Wash.) will look to help out as a freshman.  “Salena comes from a very competitive high school program and we’ll look to hopefully get her some quality time on the floor.”

“We’re going to have to teach our system to the new kids,” Weissenfluh said.  “I think our work ethic and attitude will be our biggest asset.  We have athleticism and speed and we will need to utilize it to be successful.”

The team starts their season against the EOU Alumni on Saturday, October 28 at Quinn Coliseum.  The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
