Warriors Sneak Past Mounties for Tourney Title

La Grande Ore.  It was a game that lived up to the billing. The #1 seed Mountaineers versus The #2 seed Corban College (27-6) Warriors playing for the Conference Tournament Championship. The two teams split during the regular season, each winning on their own court. They also finished with identical 15-3 league records and split the regular season conference championship.

With 10 seconds left in the game The Mountaineers (25-6) found themselves down one before Sheena Henderson scored on a post up, putting the EOU up one. Unfortunately, Eastern was unable to stop Jessi Norton's dribble penetration basket with just a couple of seconds remaining, giving the Warriors the win and the Championship 59-58.

Playing in her last game at Quinn Coliseum, Christie Weaver led Eastern in scoring finishing with 21 points and 5 rebounds on 6-13 shooting. Sheena Henderson had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-13 from the field. Junior forward Tiffanie Ulmer also chipped in with 11 points and 8 boards.

Corban's Brianne Carras turned in a terrific performance scoring 25 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Carras made 10 of her 18 field goal attempts. The only other Warrior in double figures was Jessica Steigleman who finished with 12 points and added 6 rebounds.

The loss ended a 13 game win streak for the Mountaineers. However, it is not all bad for EOU. They will have the opportunity to start a new streak at the NAIA National Tournament.

The Tournament, which is located in Sioux City, Iowa, is set to begin on March 7th. The Mounties will now wait to see who their first round opponent will be.
