NAMPA, Idaho - Despite what has been a brutal winter for training in Eastern Oregon, The Mounties had some very strong performances to kick off the indoor season.
EOU traveled to Nampa, Idaho to compete in the Blue and Orange Classic hosted by Boise State University. The event was dominated by NCAA Division I competition but the Mounties did manage to make a few waves.
On the Women's side, Alexa Loscutoff tied her lifetime best in the Long Jump before setting a personal record in the Triple Jump. Along with Loscutoff in the Triple Jump, freshman Courtney Schimidig advanced to the finals in the event (top 8).
La Grande native Melisa Abesa broke EOU's school record in the 60 meters in her first collegiate race when the freshman ran a 8.30 to win her heat.
While senior Sara Bates was running well in the mile run Trisha Harshberger was advancing to the finals of the 20 pound weight throw.
The Men were paced by the record setting performance to Chris Hoppie. Hoppie just missed the NAIA National qualifying mark when he ran a school record 8.40 in the 60 meter hurdles.
In the throws, Mitch Wheelhouse barely missed the NAIA provisional qualifying mark in the 35 pound weight throw.
EOU will travel back to Nampa next weekend for the Boise State United Heritage Meet.
