Welch Voted NAIA Region I Track and Field Coach of the Year

For the second consecutive year Eastern Oregon University Track & Field coach Ben Welch has been named the Region I Men's Coach of the Year.

 

Welch's team finished tied for first with Concordia University at this years Cascade Conference Championships.  A thrilling last event victory by his 4x400 team left both the Mounties and the Cavs with 180 total points at the two day event held in La Grande.

 

In his five seasons at the helm of the Track & Field program Coach Welch has been given this award three times including just last year.  As head coach of the Cross Country team for the last 16 years Ben has also been recognized for his coaching prowess, winning multiple conference and regional awards.  In 1997 Welch was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year on the Women's side.

 

As always, Coach Welch deflected attention from himself and placed it on his coaching staff and team saying, "I am thankful to the athletes and the assistant coaches for all of the hard work they put in."
