Nampa, Idaho - Soph. transfer (clackamas CC) standout Chris Hoppie started the NNU
multi events off in fine style with 5 multi event PR's (Personal Records) to lead after day one. Lucas Ohmes is following in 2nd (we believe- complete over all results are unavailable a this time). If
Chris continues at this pace (always a risky bet in a Decathlon!) he has a very good shot at breaking EOU's school record of 6598 points set by Sean Steen (of Wollowa county) in 1989 and easily qualifying for the NAIA National meet. Both Chris and Lucas have some strong events on the
second day.
Day one Totals (mark followed by points)
Chris: 100 meters: 11.45 (763pts), Long Jump: 21'31/2" (695), Shot: 37'10 3/4" (579), High Jump: 6'1 1/4" (679), 400 meters: 50.75 (780)=
3,496 points.
Lucas: 100: 11.58 (736), LJ: 20'6" (641), Shot: 39'6" (609), HJ: 5'71/4" (552), 400: 54.52 (618)= 3,156 points.
Women: Kasie Gillespie and Erin Ontko are competing for the EOU women (6 competitors, no places available). This is Erin's first multi her first time ever competing in some of the events (like the 100 me hurdles).
Kasie's marks should easily qualify her for the NAIA meet at this pace: 100 Hurdles: 15.89 (728), HJ: 5' 2 1/2" (724), Shot: 30' 5 3/4" (483), 200: 26.81 (728)= 2663
Erin: 100 Hurdles: 21.00 (225), HJ: 4' 4" (429), Shot: 24' 2 1/4" (359), 200: 28.82 (563)= 1576 points.
Action begins at 11:00 a.m. (MT time) with the men's 110 High Hurdles and Noon with the women's Long Jump on Friday.
Also Friday will see a hand full of distance runners at he Willamette Invite Distance Carnival in the evening.
