Track & Field Championship Final Day

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The final day of the NAIA track and field meet saw senior Adam Goulet
put himself into position to win the National title in the 1,000 meter run, only to be thwarted, much like Outdoor Nationals last spring, by an asthma attack.

Adam got out on the shoulder of the leaders through about 500 meters of the 1000 meter race, right were he needed to be to be in the hunt to win. However, shortly before that point in the race his breathing started to tighten up, despite a fairly controlled pace, and it was all he could do to finish.

Adam made a brave decision going into the race to run for the win, rather than a conservative run to finish in the top 6 (and earn a coveted All American honor), and while it did not work out the way we had hoped, he has no regrets in going for the win.

Adams effort symbolized how this entire group did at this meet.  While the results may not have always been what we had hoped for, the efforts were.

Head Coach Ben Welch had this to say about the weekend, "The coaching staff here at EOU is very proud and excited about this group and what the entire team can accomplish outdoors."

The Mountaineer Track and Field teams will kick off the outdoor season Saturday, March 15 at the NNU Open in Nampa, Idaho.
