La Grande - The Mountaineers played host to Albertson, Treasure Valley Community College and a partial Northwest Nazarene squad on Saturday morning.  Eastern showed well winning 12 of the 28 men's and women's events.

The meet was the first of the outdoor season and saw plenty of highlights from Mountie athletes.

On the Women's side, freshman Danielle Ries had a PR in winning the 200 finishing just ahead of fellow freshman Danielle Murphy.  Chelsee Harmon finished first in the 400 meter hurdles.

Kasie Gillespie had a strong showing, winning both the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump.  Meanwhile, EOU Volleyball standout Grace Deboodt won the javelin.

For the men, Zach Heath ran what Head Coach Ben Welch called a, very strong and tactically sound race for the win" in the 1500.  Chris Hoppie (running unattached) and Lucas Ohmes finished 1,2 in the 100 meter hurdles while Ryan Browne and Adam Miller were first and second in the 400 meter hurdle event.

Coach Welch was pleased with the teams effort, " All in all, given the end of finals on Friday and a hard training cycle it was a good solid opening meet."

Eastern will send eleven athletes to sunny California to compete in the Stanford Invite over spring break.
