La Grande, Ore- With only one event remaining in the 2007 Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships The Eastern Oregon University men's track team found themselves down seven points to Concordia University with just one event remaining, the 4x400M relay. The Mounties needed to win the race and have CU finish no higher than sixth to gain a share of the conference crown... and that's exactly what they got. An EOU win with the Cavs finishing in the 6 spot gave the two teams matching point totals (180).
Coming into the day Head Coach Ben welch knew the team would have to perform well to hold off their conference rival Cavaliers. For most of the day they did just that, until a very strong 5K team from CU put the Cavs ahead with one event remaining and the rest is history. The team of Matt Lane, Ryan Brown, Chris Hoppie and Adam Miller won in a time of 3.22.60 while Concordia finished 6th (3.30.77).
On the women's side it was Marcella Bosch who stole show, walking away with the coveted Athlete of the Meet award for the women. The men's award went to OIT's Jguwon Hogges.
After their respective teams headlined the meet, it was only right that EOU Head Coach Ben Welch and CU Coach Randy Dalzell shared Coach of the Year Honors for the Men. Dalzell also took home the award for the women.
Day two event winners included, Trisha Harshberger in the Hammer, with a toss of 145' 8". Marcella Bosch ran a 2.16.85 in her 800 victory and of course the 4x400 men's team won in dramatic fashon.
