GRESHAM, Ore. - The Mountaineer track & field teams had a great Cascade Conference Championship meet as both the men and women grabbed second-place honors.
The men's team claimed 19 All-Conference honors by placing in the top three positions in their event and the women grabbed 15.
Those Mountaineers that will be able to call themselves Cascade Conference champions for the next 12 months are: Matt Lane (400 meters), Kyle Janssen (800 meters), Marcella Bosch (1500 meters), and Chelsey Wheelhouse (hammer throw).
Other members placing second or third for their All-conference honors were: Talon Jayo (2nd, 100 meters), Matt Lane (2nd, 200 meters), Keyth Bauer (3rd, 200 meters), Marcella Bosch (2nd, 800 meters), Laura Clayton (2nd, 3000 meter steeplechase), Troy Blackburn (2nd, 3000 meter steeplechase), Tom Dillon (2nd, high jump), Krystal Holiday (2nd, pole vault), Whitney Haltiner (2nd triple jump), Peter Fry (2nd, triple jump), Tom Dillon (3rd, triple jump), Sara Biechler (2nd, hammer throw), Trish Harshberger (3rd, hammer throw), Adam Cooper (2nd, hammer throw), and Travis Milsap (3rd, hammer throw).
The most impressive performance of the meet, if not the year, came in the men's 4 x 100 meter relay, as the Mountaineer quartet of Gary Truman, Matt Lane, Keyth Bauer, and Talon Jayo shredded the MHCC track in a season best time of 42.91 seconds and first-place awards all around.
The men's 4 x 400 meter relay team of Gary Truman, Matt Lane, Keyth Bauer, and Talen Jayo set an new 2006 standard of 3 minutes, 22.37 seconds; finishing just 1.27 second behind Concordia for second place. The women's relays set a season-bests in the 4 x 100 meters (Lindsey Payne, Chelsee Harmon, Joelle Bain, Marika Dobos) with a time of 52.45 seconds and the 1600 meter relay (Abby Morrison, Marcella Bosch, Chelsee Harmon, Kyle Janssen) with a mark of 4 minutes, 5.67 seconds.
Both teams will send contingents to the Western Oregon Last Chance meet next Friday for a last-ditch effort to qualify for the NAIA National Outdoor Championships in Fresno, Calif., May 25-27.
