ASHLAND, Ore. - In the Cascade Conference match-up against the Southern Oregon Raiders 7-15, 5-5 CCC, the Mounties 10-12, 5-5 CCC earn a split, losing the first game 11-10 in extra innings then winning the second 2-5.

The first game looked like the Raiders were heading toward a route, holding a commanding 8-1 lead in the second inning.  However with strong efforts from Melodee Mildenberger batting 3-5 and Megan Platz hitting 2-4, a home-run with 3 RBIs; the Mounties were able to scratch and claw their way back into the game, taking the lead in the bottom of the 7th inning 9-10.  The Raiders however were able to tie the game and force an extra inning.  In the extra inning SOU controlled the game and scored the winning run.

The Mountaneer dominance from the second half of the first game continued in to the second winning easily 2-5.  Kelly West had a strong day on the mound allowing only 5 hits, 2 un-earned runs and 2 strike outs through six innings.  Teri Cisler closed the game with zero walks or hits, and 2 strike outs; she also had tremendous stats in the first game, pitching 5 1/3 innings the first game.  Vanessa Wood went 2-4 from the plate, each doubles with 2 RBIs, Michelle St. John was walked twice and hit 2-2 with a tripple.  However the highlight of the night was Megan Platz hitting her second home-run of the night which puts her at 10 on the season.  This tenth run ties Beth Hull’s single season home-run record with at least 16 games left in the season.  Coach Wheeler said “for this team to come back and wint the second game after the tough loss in the first game is a display of this team.  Fighting hard and never giving up is what this team is all about.”

The Mounties will be in action again tomorrow, April 5, 2008 against conference leaders Oregon Institute of Technology 18-10, 8-2 CCC.  The game is set for 11:00 am.
