La Grande, Ore - The Mountaineer Softball Team (12-13, 4-6 CCC) scored three early runs and held on to win the second game of their double header with Southern Oregon 3-2. The win gave EOU the split, having lost game one 4-3 at Pioneer Park.
In the first game Hannah Kirk and Teri Cisler each went 2-3 from the plate. Kirk got the Mountie offense started when she hit a solo homer in the third.
With the score tied 3-3 in the seventh inning, Southern (10-22, 5-5 CCC) scored the winning run when Brin Tamlin tagged up and scored on a Karla Alvarez sacrafice fly. The run would prove to be the difference as the Mountie line up was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.
The second game saw the Mountaineers get off to a nice start when Teri Cisler doubled to left field scoring Iris Woodhead in the second.
EOU added to their total when Meghan Henderson homered to lead off the third inning. Later in the inning Iris Woodhead, who was 3-3 in the game, hit an RBI single that scored Melodee Mildenberger.
In the top of the sixth, first baseman Bailey Price hit a solo home run that brought the Raiders within a run but the Mountie defense held strong in the seventh giving Eastern the win and the split.
Kelly West got the win, going 3.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and a run.
The Mountaineers will face Walla Walla College on the road on Tuesday before hosting Corban and Concordia next weekend.
