La Grande, Ore- Simon Fraser University continued there undefeated season winning both games of the double header against the Mountaineers. Both games were called in five innings because of the 8 run mercy rule, the first game 0-10 and the second 2-13.
Despite the losses Mountie head coach Missy Wheeler did see things that she liked, “We put the ball in play like we wanted, we got runners on and moved them around. Most importantly our girls never quit. If we can do those things against the #3 team in the country, defending National Champions then we can do it against anybody.”
The day did have a few bright spots. Senior Stephanie Baumann sat down 4 of her first 5 batters faced in the second game. Sophomore, Kimmy Peterson and junior Vanessa Wood both had clutch hits to drive in runs.
Even with the losses the Mountaineers remain one game out of third place and two games out of second place, with five games remaining, in the very tight Cascade Conference race.
The Eastern women will go on the road this weekend to play Southern Oregon on Friday and OIT on Saturday. Then return home for senior night, May 5th, against Albertson College.
