Untimely Errors Cost Mounties in Season Opener

CALDWELL, Idaho - The Mountaineer Softball hit the road this weekend for the College of Idaho Tournament.  EOU kicked off the tourney with a 2-1 scrimmage win over Treasure Valley Community College followed by a 5-3 loss to Holy Names in their non-conference opener.

Against TVCC Eastern had a strong pitching performance by Kelly West.  West gave up just 2 hits and a single run.  Offensively, Megan Platz carried the load going 3-4 with a Homerun and both RBI.

Against Holy Names the Mounties got off to a great start thanks to the red hot bat of junior Megan Platz.  Platz picked up where she left off in their scrimmage against the Chukers.  The transfer from Big Bend Community College went 2-4 with a Homerun and 2 RBI in this one.

EOU found themselves in the drivers seat, up 2-1 in the 7th but some untimely errors cost Eastern the lead and eventually the game.

Tomorrow the Mountaineers will have a chance to bounce back against Holy Names as they play twice more before Eastern caps off the weekend on another scrimmage with Treasure Valley.
