LA GRANDE, Ore. - The ice on the '08 softball season has been broken in more ways than one. In the first game against the pre season #14 nationally ranked College of Idaho (COI) 9-4, 1-1 CCC, snow flurries forced a 20 minute delay early. After the rain, sleet and snow cleared the Yotes rallied back from being down 0-1 early. For the Yotes, Daniyelle Villyard had the big stick, with six RBI's., hitting two of her three home runs in the first game. Also pitcher Katie Zillner had a great game with seven strike outs, and allowing only two hits.
The second game was all Mounties 2-3, 1-1 CCC, dominating the field in a 1-4 win. The winning effort was started on the mound. Pitcher Kelly West had one of her best performances thus far on the year with seven strike outs while allowing only four hits. On the offensive side of the field, Iris Woodhead went 2-4, driving her first on-the-year home in the fifth inning; she ended the day with two RBI's. Kimmy Peterson also had a hot bat going 2-4. The split against the Yotes was huge against the mounties considering COI's national ranking and the fact that Eastern's team has several injuries.
Look for the Mounties in action at home again at 3:00pm, Friday March 21st against the Corban College Warriors and 1:00pm, Saturday March 22nd against the Concordia University Cavaliers.
