Tuscon, Ariz - EOU's Softball team picked up where they left off in Salem on Saturday pilling up 21 hits in their first two games in Tuscon, Arizona. The wins over Pacific Lutheran and St. Olaf College are the bring Eastern's win total to 7 with 5 losses.
Game 1 vs. Pacific Lutheran University
The Mounties didn't waste any time getting started in this one. With the first two batters having reached base in the first inning, Lydia Holm got the scoring started with a 3 run homerun. Eastern never let up, adding on 6 more runs while giving up just one.
Holm finished the game 2-3, Meghan Henderson had a terrific day at the plate going 3-4. Meanwhile, Melodee Mildenberger went 2-3 at the plate. On the mound she gave up just one run on two hits. Mildenberger finished with 7 strike outs.
According to Head Coach Missy Wheeler the team was definitely ready to play, "From the very beginning they did a great job getting the ball in play. We really hit the ball hard and made the defense have to make plays."
On a sour note, Senior Marissa Becker may have broken her ankle in the third inning while running the bases. Coach Wheeler was not certain about the extent of the injury but assumed it was broken based on what she saw.
Game 2 vs. St. Olaf College
The Eastern players and coaches had to work hard to focus on the task at hand in their game against St. Olaf College. The team still did not know exactly what was going on with their friend and teammate Marissa Becker who badly injured her ankle in their earlier game vs. PLU.
Somehow they Mounties remained focused and defeated St. Olaf 8-3.
Kelly West pitched all 7 innings, holding the Oles to just 3 runs. At the same time EOU had their offense in gear scoring 8 runs on 11 hits.
Lydia Holm hit her second homerun of the day. Holm finished the game 2-4. Hannah Kirk, Iris Woodhead, Kimmy Peterson and Meghan Henderson also went 2-3 respectively. Along with Holm, Kirk and Woodhead also homered. For Woodhead it was her first college round tripper.
The Mounties will face St. Olaf again tomorrow at 11:00am followed by two games with the host team, Graceland.
