EOU Softball Swept by Division I Idaho State

Caldwell, Id - The Eastern Oregon Softball Team lost both of their games against Idaho State Saturday afternoon in Caldwell.  The NCAA Division I Bengals were playing in their tenth and eleventh games of the year while the Mounties were competing in their first counter of the season.

In the first game Eastern did not come out ready to compete according to Head Coach Missy Wheeler, "We were a little timid in the first game.  (Idaho State) had played a few more games and we are still trying to find our way."

In that game the Mounties were outscored 9-1.  The Mountaineers lone run came in the 3rd inning when right fielder Kimmy Peterson scored on a Meghan Henderson single.

Game two was a little different story, as the Eastern defense held the Bengals to four runs.

The Mountaineers lost the game 4-2 but played much better after struggling in the first.

In the 4th, Meghan Henderson doubled then scored, when 3rd baseman Lydia Holm reached 2nd on a Bengal defensive error.

Later in the 5th junior Lindsey Smith hit a solo shot over the left field fence to bring EOU within a run but was unable to get over the hump.

Eastern will have a couple of scrimmages against Walla Walla CC and Blue Mt. CC before facing NCAA Division II, Northwest Nazarene in Nampa on March 13th.  Game time is set for 2:00pm MT.
