LA GRANDE, Ore - Head Coach Ryan Looney and the Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball program received a commitment from a third high school standout according to Looney.

Nick Ambrose, a 6-foot-5, 205 pound forward from Central Valley High School Spokane, Washington has signed a letter of intent to attend EOU in the September.  This past season Ambrose averaged 15.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.  He was named First Team All-Greater Spokane League and ranks as Central Valley High Schools fifth all-time leading scorer.

“We are excited about the addition of Nick Ambrose,” said Looney.  “His toughness and size will fit perfectly with our style of play.  His addition gives us another player that has the ability to play inside and out.”

Ambrose, rated the fourth best forward in Washington by northwesthoops.com, helped Head Coach Rick Sloan advance to the championship game of the Washington 4A State Tournament during the 2005-06 season.

“It has been a pleasure to have been able to coach Nick Ambrose for four years,” said Sloan.  “He has been an outstanding and durable player who has brought stability and leadership to our program for several years.”

Ambrose is the third player to sign with EOU this recruiting season.  He joins Nate Bligh of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho (Coeur d’ Alene High School) and Beau Azadganian of Spokane, Washington (Gonzaga Prep).

The Mountaineers compiled a 23-8 record and advanced to the championship game of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament during the 2006-2007 season.  The 23 wins were the most in EOU Men's Basketball history.
