LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ryan Looney was pleased with this years turnout for the second annual Individual Skills Basketball Camp.

Over thirty-five local basketball players ranging from third grade to eleventh grade attended the July 31-August 3 Mountaineer Basketball Camp at Quinn Coliseum.
“The number of participants was up from last year and we look forward to seeing the same improvement in the upcoming years,” Coach Looney stated. “We appreciate all of the support from the community as the funds raised help provide items not covered by our operating budget.”
The Individual Skills Camp focuses on young athletes attitudes, motivation, skill development, and teamwork. Instruction provided by Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball coaching staff and student-athletes takes into account age and skill while emphasizing shooting, ball handling, post moves, and rebounding skills.
Aside from the improvement of these individual skills, the overall purpose of the camp is to develop confidence, self-esteem, and love for the game of basketball.
Because of the increase in local participation Coach Looney plans to expand the camp into an overnight event. “Next year campers will have the option to use university facilities and become more involved in the overall experience as resident campers.”
The Junior Mountaineer Youth League begins September 24 at Quinn Coliseum. For more information on this event or any 2006-2007 EOU Basketball Camp please contact Coach Looney at (541) 962-3569.
