Women Up a Spot to 22, Men Reach #6

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The third NAIA National Poll proves that coaches around the country are learning more about Eastern Oregon University Basketball.  In the latest National Coaches Poll the EOU Women moved up one spot to 22nd on the strength of a 6-0 start to the season.  The Mountaineer Men (8-1) are soaring to new heights as they moved up three spots to #6 in the country.

The Eastern women began the season receiving votes in the preseason poll.  After 5 consecutive wins the Mountaineers found themselves sitting at 23rd in the December 5th rankings.  Now, after knocking off NCAA D-III Linfield College 47-45 Saturday night the Mounties slide into the 22nd position.

The six consecutive wins are the most to start a season in school history.

On the Men's side, Eastern continues to venture into uncharted territory.  No Eastern Oregon University Men's team has ever been ranked inside the top 10.  In fact, prior to last weeks ranking of 9th the Mountaineers highest mark was 17th during the 2006-2007 campaign.

Both teams will put their rankings to the test several times before the holiday break.  The Women travel to Whitworth Friday night before getting back to Conference play Tuesday and Wednesday night against Cascade College and Warner Pacific in Portland.

The Men begin a string of 4 games in 7 days Thursday night when they host Walla Walla University in Quinn Coliseum.  The Mounties then travel to Nampa for and exhibition against NCAA D-II Northwest Nazarene before traveling with the Women to Portland to face Cascade and #13 Warner Pacific.
