HELENA, Mont. - The Eastern Oregon University Football team has had a rough start to their 2007 campaign. The team lost a heartbreaking four overtime thriller to Southern Oregon then spotted Western Montana 21 points before rallying, only to fall just one posession short. Saturday the Mounties got no relief from the #4 Carroll College Saints who beat EOU 38-3 in Helena.
The Saints jumped out early after two early turnovers gave the home team a short field to work with.
Fumbles on each of the Mounties first two possessions and the subsequent touchdowns led to a 14-0 hole. EOU did bounce back with a field goal to make the score 14-3 unfortunately that would be the only points put on the board by the Mountaineers.
Carroll entered halftime up 24-3 largely due to the two big turnovers to start the game.
The second half started with promise for EOU as they picked off passes twice early in the half. Both of those possessions started inside the Mounties own 5 yard line. Unable to gain the 95 plus yards necessary, Eastern would not capitalize on either turnover.
The Mountaineers will look to rebound next Saturday versus Rocky Mountain College. Kick off at Community Stadium is set for 1:00pm.
