Welcome to the first edition of the Mountaineer Pride newsletter.
Through this publication, you will receive periodic updates on the progress of our football program. Each issue will include the most current news related to the Eastern Oregon University football and provide information regarding upcoming events. This is a means in which to keep you in touch with the latest developments.
We focused this year on building a foundation for a winning team, thereby creating the chance for a championship team and program. Our guys have put many blocks in the foundation. This team has seen some blocks fall and crumble away at times. They are learning now, however, that the only thing to do is to keep picking them back up, to keep building.
We are here to create a winning program - that is for sure, but we will also appreciate and learn from our past seasons together in preparing for this 2008 football season. I cannot be more pleased with our senior leadership and their efforts so far this off season as we are nearing spring football sessions. We talk a great deal about being a “MOUNTIE” and I know that these guys are indeed “MOUNTIES”!!
Many of you have been faithful supporters of the football program for many years and I am asking for your continued support and the belief in this program, now is the time to bring more alumni and friends into the fold. I am very excited about spring practice. I plan on utilizing afternoon practices during the week, with meeting and practice times in the morning on weekends, including scrimmage sessions.
The squad will practice four days a week, taking Wednesday's, Friday’s and Sunday's off from team activities on the field. The squad will continue to build and be a part of the community with its community projects that are in full swing. Off-season workouts implemented have included 6:15 am sessions including conditioning as well as weight lifting aspects. I feel the team has made improvements in physical conditioning which will translate into an effective spring session.
During our spring practices, we will focus on becoming more fundamentally sound on the field, as well as relaying the structure we want to have as we approach next season. We will spend some time implementing our basic offense and defensive systems, but will not go into any great detail. We will utilize 15-days of off-season practice that will be spread over a 27-day period, culminating with the 2nd annual Rollin Schimmel Spring Game at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 17th at Round-Up Grounds in Pendleton, Oregon. Festivities will commence with a BBQ at the grounds after the Game.
