Shields, Camp Speak at Nike Clinic

3.14.07

Head Football Coach Ian Shields, Assistant Head Coach Tim Camp & the rest of the Eastern coaching staff have done plenty to impress Mountie Football fans in their first full year on campus.  When Shields and Camp were invited to speak at the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic it became obvious that people outside of Eastern Oregon are also impressed.

The clinics, which are held at several sights around the nation and feature some of the countries top NCAA Division I coaches, have been around for more than 30 years.

In its first full season the EOU football staff got off to a great start going 6-5 in the always tough Frontier Conference while getting their athletes to adjust to a new coaching philosophy and new expectations.  A lot of those expectations came in the classroom where the Mounties have seen a dramatic improvement in the one calendar year that Coach Shields and his staff have been in La Grande.

Coach Shields spoke about the University and the program goals.  He discussed recruiting, player profiles and his keys to victory.  In short, he wanted to spread the word about his vision for Eastern Oregon University.

Coach Camp went into detail about the teams’ triple option offensive scheme and how he envisions it working with a full year of recruiting under his belt.  Camp also had a chance to discuss the teams’ summer programs.

Eastern offers three separate summer football camps; The Big Man Camp, 8 Man Team Camp and 11 Man Team Camp all held on the campus of EOU.  If you would like more information on any of these you can access the brochure online at www.eou.edu/athletic/fb/  Just click on the camp brochure link on the left hand side of the page.
