Mounties Continue Search For Shields Replacement

LA GRANDE, Ore. (EOU) – Eastern Oregon University announced today that a national search for a new head football coach is moving forward.

 

“The search committee has been diligently working to review over 80 applications,” said Rob Cashell, director of athletics at EOU. “I am confident that the committee will be bringing forward very solid candidates to phone interview and, ultimately, to invite the finalists to campus for formal on-site interviews.”

 

The search for a new head coach was initiated after second-year head coach Ian Shields resigned in late December to accept a position with the Cal Poly/San Luis Obispo football program as the offensive coordinator. Cal Poly is the school where Shields was employed prior to accepting the head football coaching position with the Mountaineers in February of 2006.

 

“I let the committee know that my goal is to have a new coach in place by mid-February, and so far, they are on schedule,” Cashell said.

 

The Mountaineers compete in the Frontier Conference of the NAIA.  A complete 2008 schedule follows:
