Monday with the Mounties

No need to wipe your eyes or scroll down to the bottom right of the screen to check the date... this is Monday with the Mounties on Monday! I found some time in between all of the Mountie Award stuff to type up the weekly happenings.

Well by now I hope all of you have knowledge of the Eastern Sports Network . Last week I had an athlete from the seven intercollegiate sports here at Eastern over to my house for "The Real World: La Grande," and let me tell you, I picked the perfect seven people. When I came up with the idea to do a parody of MTV's well-known show, I had no idea I'd have such great actors and actresses. I was a little hesitant at first when I told all of them that it would all be unscripted and we'd just "wing it" with ideas from everyone. The commercial/ teaser is up now to view, and the full video will be shown at the Mountie Awards.

Women's and men's track and field had a solid weekend in Gresham at the Cascade Conference Championships. The men pulled out a second place finish, while the women finished the meet in third. Host school, Concordia, took the team titles on both sides. Marcella Bosch won the 1500 and 800 meter races before being crowned the female track athlete of the meet for the second year in a row. EOU track and field will now await official invitations, but already have many invited to the national meet in St. Louis, Mo. May 22-24.

For those who are curious and were involved in the text voting, we had 389 votes in the first round which was three days long, and this time there were 313 votes in just one day. The public response has been tremendous for the Mountie Awards. Pre-ordering of tickets will begin this week, there are only 188 tickets available for the public. So, pre-ordering tickets is a very good idea! I believe the price per ticket will be three dollars and you may only reserve five seats maximum. The final nominees are now posted on the Mounties link and winners will be announced on June 4th at the show.

Eastern football had a very successful Saturday at the Family Fun Fest on the EOU campus. The Blue and Gold scrimmage was almost overshadowed by the great times had by a very good turnout. Expect much of the same on the other side of the mountains this Saturday in Pendleton for the second annual Rollin Schimmel game. I'm excited to announce the game, it will be my first football game announced here at Eastern, but will also signify my announcing in every one of the seven intercollegiate sports here at EOU.

Until next week, stay down or MOUNT UP!
