Pendleton, Ore - Close to 700 Mountie supporters poured into The Pendleton Round-up Grounds Saturday to watch the Eastern Oregon University Football team conduct their final workout of the Spring.  They also came to pay homage to EOU and NAIA Hall of fame member Rollin Schimmel who passed away last year.

Schimmel was a National Champion Wrestler and member of the Mountaineer Football team during the 1960's.  The Schimmel Memorial Scrimmage was conducted in Pendleton as a way of saying thank you to the Schimmel family, many of whom still live in the Pendleton area, for their endless support of EOU Athletics.  Rollin was known for dedicating his life to the advancement of amateur athletics.

The event gave onlookers a chance to see a glimpse of the excitement Mountaineer Football will provide this Fall as they compete in the Frontier Conference.

Last year as a first year head coach, Ian Shields and his staff led the Mounties to a 6-5 record, including 3 straight to close out the season.

Eastern will host six home games next year, including the season opener versus Southern Oregon on September 1st.
