The Mountaineer Men's Basketball Team improved its record to 6-0 with a 122-68 win over Walla Walla. The six wins are the most to start a season since 1981. Head coach Ryan Looney was pleased with his teams efforts this far. "I am proud of the individuals on the team for doing something at EOU that hasn't been done in a long time."
Eastern's defense held the Wolves to a season low 68 points on 40% shooting, while the Mounties were a blistering 63% from the field, including 50% from behind the arc. The home teams scoring attack was well balanced. Seven different players scored in double figures. Sophomore point guard Jeremy Templeton led the Mountaineers with 17 points. Junior wing Mark Carrollo scored 15 points and added 7 assists while the younger Carollo, Paul, just missed his 5th double double of this young season when he tallied 9 rebounds to go with his 13 points.
Walla Walla was led by junior big man Ryan Wilson who led all scorers with 20 points. The other Mounties scoring in double figures were Derek Brown 14, Neil Fryer 12, Thomas McCarthy 11, and Vernon Cropper 10.
Eastern will next suit up in Caldwell, ID in the Golden Rule Shoot-Out, hosted by Albertsons College. The Mounties will face Westminster College in the Friday night cap, set to tip off at 9:30 pm MST and Willamette University at 7:30 pm MST Saturday night.
