Bosch Makes Huge Strides Despite Tough Conditions

Just imagine what she could have done if it were dry.  Mountaineer Cross Country runner Marcella Bosch ran a 19:19:05 Saturday on a wet, muddy course in Louisville Kentucky.  Bosch, competing in the national meet for the second time in two years, ran 40 seconds faster than her performance last year.

The sophomore placed 73rd out of the 268 runners that finished the race.  It was an improvement of more than 100 places over her freshman campaign.  Head Coach Ben Welch said, “She executed the race plan very well.  Who knows how well she would have done under better conditions.  What she did was very impressive.”

Welch had plenty to be impressed with, as two of Bosch’s teammates were named Academic All-American’s by the NAIA. To achieve this honor, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA and have at least junior standing.  Jessica Johnston and John Aguirre were the 46th and 47th such honorees under Welch.
