
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo.- Four double-digit scorers led the Eastern Oregon University men in a rout victory over Edward Waters (Fla.) in the NAIA division two national tournament first round, 93-62.
The victory marked the first postseason win since the 1950's for basketball. EOU was led by Dan Blanchard's 20 points, while Mark Carollo added 18 points for the Mountaineers. Neil Fryer had 14 points for Eastern, while Paul Carollo finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Jeffrey Wimbush led all scorers with 25 points for Edward Waters, who were making their first national tournament appearance as well. Henry Arnold finished with a 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers, who qualified after winning the Florida Sun Conference tournament.
Eastern Oregon out-rebounded the nation's best rebounding team 59-36. EOU made 43 percent from the field and shot 22 percent from behind the perimeter. EWC shot 32 percent from the field in the game.
The Mountaineers move on to face the winner of Indiana-Southeast and host, The College of Ozarks, Friday, March 14 at 7:30 pm CST.
